Websites are boring as shit

Okay. Modern websites and web design are really impressive, do not get me wrong. People are doing some really impressive work out there that absolutely blows my mind and is really effective. But wow the lack of diversity, and originality between each website is seriously frustrating. Sure the content can be very different, but there is almost no uniqueness in the general form. What makes one website better than another right now all seems to be about how efficient and clear to use/navigate they are. This is a very utilitarian view, and it makes sense considering the history of the internet and the function of websites. This view only helps add to the loop of homogenization though because this enforces the reusing of common tropes because familiarity adds to ease of use for the users.

So basically all websites are becoming better or worse versions of the exact same thing. At least that is how I see it. In my research I found that you could reliably count on every website including many of the exact same design choices, it was just a matter of how well and effectively they implemented those features.

We all know the kind of features that we can expect. Sidebars, topbars?, boring headers, dropdowns, slide shows of images inserted in the page, text centered on a scrollable page, etc. Here are just a couple of examples of what I am talking about.
